World History World War II can be done thru 20th...

Hey guys, World War II really shaped our world, so I encourage you to read the notes and do the quizzes for just your own understanding and prep for future things like SAT, college, US History... See the blog for the 14th final quiz that is a summary. Here are the notes: Sway notes on all of WWII: https://sway.office.com/idH0lSgX4cbSgHfH?ref=Link

World History last assignment! Thursday, May 14

Today we will do a summative assessment of World War II. Since this is supposed to be the last assignment, I will make it more general and use it more as review than assessment. In other words I will make it more instructive than seeking to assess if you know the material. You actually have until the 19th to complete these things on World War II. There are basically 3 big points I want you to get:        1-Causes of the war        2- War in Europe        3-War with Japan Here is the quiz: 9091666

World History assignment for Wednesday, May 13

Today focus on the Pacific Theater of WWII, the fighting with Japan. (Though called a world war due to its scope, most of the fighting here was the US v Japan.) See sway notes from yesterday. Quiz WWII Pacific: 3892899

World History assignment for Tuesday, May 12

Today we study World War II. It powerfully shaped our current world. I have included all the notes on it in this sway. So these notes will guide us through the 14th which is the last day of instruction. There are basically 3 parts to our study of WWII: 1-the build up to war being declared, 2-the European War or Theater as it is called, and 3-The Pacific/ Japanese War/Theater. Today you may want to today just look at the build up and the European part. I will quiz it that way. World History assignment for Monday, May 11

Today we see Fascism lead to WWII. In some ways it is very interesting to compare it to this virus thing. The Fascist governments totally controlled people's lives by creating a crisis then presenting themselves as the solution to it. Is a similar thing taking place with this virus? The immense value of history is to learn from the past and not make the same mistakes. I AM NOT SAYING that we are being taken over by a totalitarian government right now... I am saying we need to learn from history and think for ourselves and speak up when total control takes away our freedoms! We teachers were dealt a "curveball" when we were told that the 14th is the last day of instruction. We should be fine. My goal is to finish through World War II. Today you get the Fascists coming to power. On the 12-14 the notes on WWII. Notes on Fascism: https://sway.office.com/mU5GbmvuQKoc18Y8?ref=Link Quiz: 090951

Gov't assignment for Monday, May 11

Today, your next to last day as a high school student, we look at Civil Liberties that we have as Americans. I find them very interesting in the context of this virus situation! Some have concerns that our liberties have been eroded by this tremendous control of our lives... I encourage you to study these liberties and treasure them as your "inalienable" rights that no government, no virus controls... should be able to take from you! Tomorrow is your last day! You are almost a graduate! Thanks to those of you who have continued to seek to learn and participate! I WILL REWARD YOU AS I DO FINAL GRADES! notes: https://sway.office.com/cwIDqukv9E8YGoOR?ref=Link Quiz: 196547

Government grading system

Hey guys, the grading for government is unique since it is a 9-week course. So my system is explained below: The first day of Gov was March 13. So you have no Gov grade to accept. Econ and Gov are separate 9-week courses.  So, we had NO Gov grades... So your grades are based on what you do on-line. The District is going overboard to be fair beyond fair to those with technological difficulty. Everything is weighted to help your grade.  All my grades come from Quizizz. As I put those out as assignments there is a deadline date. If the date is past you may not be able to do them as Quizizz will say they are past due. If you encounter that problem, just email me and I can issue a new date.  No zeroes can be given for un-done work, and t he District has mandated that no one can fail. Everyone gets at least a 70. If you do nothing then your grade is a 70. Most of you are far better students than that and don't want that on your transcript, so I encourage you to "get w

World History grading system

With this weird way of doing school it can be confusing to know precisely how you will be graded. I will explain how I plan to do it below. Feel free to email with questions. 1-You may choose to accept the grade you had on March 13. If so, that is your grade. (However, that does not mean school is over and you just stop doing anything.) 2-If you are not happy with that grade or simply want to improve the "number" that should be easily done with the on-line schooling. 3-The fact that you can accept the March 13 grade does not mean that school is over. Learning more World History will help you as you look to go to college, your SAT or ACT score, and your grades next year in US History, etc... 4-As you continue to do on-line school, your grades on "Quizizz" will be entered "as is." This is done to give you and your parents clear feedback on how you are doing. These grades may not hurt your March 13 average. 5-Any adjustments that need to be made will oc

Weird Quizizz coming to you

Hey guys, Some of y'all in both World History and Government have taken quizzes mistakenly for the other class (ex. government students doing World History, vice versa). When this occurs you get on the roster of that class. So when I assign a quiz to a class some of you may get the code for the other class. THINK! Please don't do a quiz unrelated to what we are studying. Some brilliant Seniors, when we are studying Congress, just did a quiz on Latin American Revolutions... Duh!!!

World History for Tuesday, April 21

Following the Absolute Monarchs came the Age of Revolutions. Leading it ideologically and chronologically was the American Revolution. You will study it in great detail in US History so we don't do much with it in World. However, the US is called an Enlightenment nation because as we had our revolution and formed our government the ideas of the Enlightenment guided every step. The Declaration of Independence is almost verbatim John Locke's Natural Rights Philosophy: The very purpose of government is protect the rights of the people If it does not protect our rights then it should be "altered or abolished" Government gets its power from the "consent of the governed," the people As the Americans successfully revolted against England in 1776, a series of revolutions followed. Today we focus on the Latin American revolutions. Tomorrow, we will review this unit on Absolutism to Revolution and test on it Thursday. Sway notes: https://sway.office.com/

Hey guys, After waiting for guidance from Admin on how to do grades, I am now up to date with entering your scores. I have entered both the unit 1 test and the Constitution test as summative assessments. For formative assessments I entered those quizzes that had the most participation. Quizizz puts both 2nd and 4th period classes together in recording the scores so that somewhat complicates the entry of grades. It would be wise on your part to verify grade entries, though I attempted to be precise. We will test on the Legislative Branch on Wednesday or so of next week.  Enjoy your day off on Friday. World History class follow up on grades

I begin with a repeat of District guidelines then follow up with specifics for our class. High school students will get a numeric grade You may choose to accept your grade from our last day, March 13, as your final grade. And future on-line grades cannot hurt that grade. On the opposite side your on-line grades can improve your grade if you choose not go with the March 13 grade. Some specifics for how I will conduct class from here on: I will continue to post Sway notes for GA Standards.  I will give Quizizz as formative assessments to ensure learning.  I will signify on my blog, this grade will go in Synergy or this is non-graded.  World History prepares you for US History and Gov't-Econ. I will go on Zoom in a moment and be available to you for whatever.

Government class Follow up to faculty meeting/ Zoom availability

Our meeting just ended. As a follow up I will begin by re-posting the basic District guidelines then follow that with the specifics for Government as a 4th quarter course with no  grades as of March 13. High school students will get a numeric grade You may choose to accept your grade from our last day, March 13, as your final grade. And future on-line grades cannot hurt that grade. On the opposite side your on-line grades can improve your grade if you choose not go with the March 13 grade. However, March 13 was the first day of the 4th quarter and the 1st day of government. Therefore, we have no grades.. So the bottom line for Government is that your on-line learning will determine your grade. No zeroes may be given for assignments not done, but your grade will come from assignments that you do complete. Again, since we have no grades prior to March 13, your grades from on-line learning will determine your numeric grade.  Some specifics for how I will conduct class from

World History Assignment for Thursday, 4-2

Hey guys, please be sure to complete the Exploration test before the break.  As we got the announcement that we will not return to school, recognize that these on-line assignments will determine your grade. Since we only have two days we will not start another big topic of study. We will do two quick views of subjects that I have let stand alone and not be part of a big unit. The first is The Scientific Revolution. It is a consequence of the Renaissance and Enlightenment. Our approach will be a little simpler and quicker. I have a quiz on Quizizz that will teach the main points I want you to know.
